Allen Stone at Freight & Salvage

M planned a date for us last night and did such a good job! Dinner was uneventful but everything after was a game changer.

We got to see Allen Stone at Freight & Salvage coffeehouse! I was initially impressed by the venue then I was blown away by Allen Stone. I cannot say enough great things about last night!

Look at all these seats. Comfortable, cushioned, wide seats. Well spaced. Tons of leg room, and stadium style so everyone can see the stage. Slight bounce to the back of the chairs – max comfort.

Look at those walls. Gorgeous salvaged wood.  Look at those light fixtures, GORGEOUS.

Some points to mention:

  • there were two bars, neither of which were very busy because they had 2 to 3 people staffed at each bar
  • in-and-outs with hand stamp
  • bathrooms upstairs and downstairs
  • NO video recording
  • efficient ticketing system and hand stamping
  • NO cup holders
  • outside food welcome!

Allen Stone, R&B musician songwriter (and me-thinks comedian):

We have never seen Allen Stone live before so did not know what we were in for.

The show was intimate! He stopped mid songs to comment on his accidental spit or to respond to a heckler. He was laughing with the crowd and messed up his loop. He asked the crowd to sing with him. He told personal stories and gave some background on songs.

Apparently this is not common! He usually performs with a band, there is no talking, and they bang out one song after another.

Felt so privileged to be able to attend an intimate show!

Beyond the stories and personal commentary – THE MAN CAN SING! AND PLAY THE HELL OUT OF A GUITAR. I sat with my mouth open at times because he is just SO TALENTED.

If you get a chance, PLEASE visit Freight & Salvage for a show and PLEASE treat yourself to some Allen Stone!

Unaware was the crowd’s favorite song (and Allen Stone’s encore choice) from last night. Take a listen:
