The most striking difference I have found during my travels is that the Europeans (Paris and Berlin at least) create a day for leisure, rest, and exploration. Businesses are generally closed on Sundays and everyone is encouraged to go outside, meet with friends, take a walk, or visit an outdoor market. This Sunday I was able to experience Mauerpark Market in Berlin, Germany.
Mauerpark Market has managed to attain cult status for good reason. There is something / many things for everyone. It’s equal parts flea market, handmade crafts fair, park concert, food festival, antiques show, art performance.
If you’ve got a couple hours to spare on a Sunday – this is a must. I arrived via the M10 around 1pm to find the market in full swing. There was food, music, thrifting, shopping, bargaining. There are stalls on both sides of the road, so be sure to check out both areas.
